Suttapiṭaka · Majjhimanikāya · Vol. 14 · Section 210

[210] "Venerable sir, when one cultivates what kind of arising of mind (cittuppāda) do unwholesome (akusala) dhammas increase and wholesome (kusala) dhammas decline? Here, venerable sir, a certain person is covetous (abhijjhā) and dwells with a mind (citta) accompanied by covetousness; he bears ill will and dwells with a mind accompanied by ill will; he is given to harming (vihesā) and dwells with a mind accompanied by harming. Venerable sir, when one cultivates this kind of arising of mind, unwholesome dhammas increase and wholesome dhammas decline."
