[279] Bhikkhus, therein right view (sammādiṭṭhi) is the forerunner. And how, bhikkhus, is right view the forerunner? For one of right view, bhikkhus, right intention (sammāsaṅkappa) comes into being; for one of right intention, right speech (sammāvācā) comes into being; for one of right speech, right action (sammākammanta) comes into being; for one of right action, right livelihood (sammāājīva) comes into being; for one of right livelihood, right effort (sammāvāyāma) comes into being; for one of right effort, right mindfulness (sammāsati) comes into being; for one of right mindfulness, right concentration (samādhi) (sammāsamādhi) comes into being; for one of right concentration, right knowledge (ñāṇa) (sammāñāṇa) comes into being; for one of right knowledge, right liberation (sammāvimutti) comes into being. Thus indeed, bhikkhus, the trainee (sekha) is possessed of eight factors, and the arahant is possessed of ten factors.
