[377] "Venerable sir, I have heard this in the presence of the Blessed One, received it in his presence: 'Ānanda, as soon as he is born, the Bodhisatta stands firmly with even feet upon the earth and, facing north, walks a stretch of seven paces while a white parasol is held over him; he surveys all the quarters and utters the lordly utterance: "I am the foremost of the world; I am the eldest of the world; I am the best of the world. This is the last birth; there is now no renewal of existence."' That too, venerable sir, … This too, venerable sir, I remember as an incredible and amazing quality (acchariya-abbhūtadhamma) of the Blessed One."
