[378] "Venerable sir, I have heard this in the presence of the Blessed One, received it in his presence: 'Ānanda, when the Bodhisatta emerges from his mother's womb, then in the world with its devas, Māras, and Brahmās, in this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, with its devas and humans, an immeasurable, magnificent radiance appears in the world, surpassing the divine majesty of the devas. Even in those intermediate spaces between the worlds (lokantarikā)—void, unenclosed regions of darkness, of blinding gloom, where even the moon and sun, so mighty and so powerful, do not prevail with their light—there too an immeasurable, magnificent radiance appears in the world, surpassing the divine majesty of the devas. And the beings reborn there perceive one another by that radiance: "It seems, sirs, that other beings too have been reborn here!" And this ten-thousandfold world-system shakes, quakes, and trembles; and an immeasurable, magnificent radiance appears in the world, surpassing the divine majesty of the devas.' That, venerable sir, … This too, venerable sir, I remember as an incredible and amazing quality of the Blessed One."
