[429] "Well then, friend Kaccāna, I shall ask you a counter-question on this very point; answer it as you see fit. What do you think, friend Kaccāna? The bhikkhu who abides having pervaded and resolved upon the extent of a single tree-root as 'expansive (mahaggata)', and the bhikkhu who abides having pervaded and resolved upon the extent of two or three tree-roots as 'expansive' — of these two developments of mind (cittabhāvanā), which development of mind is the more expansive?"
"Venerable sir, the bhikkhu who abides having pervaded and resolved upon the extent of two or three tree-roots as 'expansive' — of these two developments of mind, this one is the more expansive."
