[551] The Blessed One said this:
"One should not run back to the past,
nor place expectation upon the future;
what is past has been abandoned,
and the future has not yet been reached.
Whoever sees with insight the presently arisen dhamma,
right there where it arises —
unfaltering, unshakable —
having penetrated that, one should cultivate it.
Today itself the effort must be made;
who knows whether death will come tomorrow?
For there is no bargaining for us
with Death and his great army.
One who dwells thus, ardent (ātāpī),
untiring by day and by night —
it is he, declares the peaceful sage,
who has one auspicious night (bhaddekaratta)."
This is what the Blessed One said. Having said this, the Sublime One rose from his seat and entered the dwelling.
