[560] "And how, friends, is one drawn away among presently arisen states? Friends, the eye and forms — both of these are presently arisen. If consciousness (viññāṇa) is bound by desire and lust (chandarāga) in that very present, then because consciousness is bound by desire and lust, one delights in that; delighting in that, one is drawn away among presently arisen states. Friends, the ear and sounds … Friends, the nose and odours … Friends, the tongue and tastes … Friends, the body and tangibles … Friends, the mind and mental phenomena (dhammā) — both of these are presently arisen. If consciousness is bound by desire and lust in that very present, then because consciousness is bound by desire and lust, one delights in that; delighting in that, one is drawn away among presently arisen states. Thus indeed, friends, is one drawn away among presently arisen states."
