[57] "Ānanda, there are these four kinds of disciplinary issues (adhikaraṇa). What four? Disciplinary issues arising from disputes (vivādādhikaraṇa), disciplinary issues arising from accusations (anuvādādhikaraṇa), disciplinary issues arising from offenses (āpattādhikaraṇa), and disciplinary issues arising from procedures (kiccādhikaraṇa). These, Ānanda, are the four kinds of disciplinary issues.
And, Ānanda, there are these seven means of settling disciplinary issues (adhikaraṇasamatha), for the settling and stilling of disciplinary issues whenever they arise: resolution face-to-face (sammukhāvinaya) is to be granted; resolution through recollection (sativinaya) is to be granted; resolution on account of past insanity (amūḷhavinaya) is to be granted; acting according to what has been admitted (paṭiññātakaraṇa); majority decision (yebhuyyasikā); further penalty (tassapāpiyasikā); covering over as if with grass (tiṇavatthāraka)."
