[584] Here, student, some woman or man is by nature one who harms beings with the hand (pāṇi), a clod, a stick, or a knife. Because of that action (kamma), thus completed and thus undertaken, upon the breaking up of the body, after death, he arises in a state of deprivation (apāya), a bad destination (duggati), a place of ruin (vinipāta), hell (niraya). If, upon the breaking up of the body, after death, he does not arise in a state of deprivation, a bad destination, a place of ruin, hell, and if he comes to the human state, then wherever he is afterwards reborn, he is one of many ailments. This, student, is the way of practice (paṭipadā) leading to many ailments, namely: being by nature one who harms beings with the hand, a clod, a stick, or a knife.
