[585] Here, student, some woman or man is by nature one who does not injure beings with the hand, or with a clod, or with a stick, or with a knife. Because of that action (kamma), thus completed, thus undertaken, on the breakup of the body, after death, he is reborn in a good destination, in a heavenly world. But if, on the breakup of the body, after death, he is not reborn in a good destination, in a heavenly world, then if he comes to the human state, wherever he is afterwards reborn, he is one of few afflictions. This, student, is the way of practice that leads to few afflictions, namely, being by nature one who does not injure beings with the hand, or with a clod, or with a stick, or with a knife.
