[589] Here again, student, some woman or man is not envious-minded (anissāmanaka): regarding the gains, honor (sakkāra), respect, esteem, homage, and veneration of others, such a one does not envy, does not resent, does not harbor envy. Through that kamma, thus completed and thus undertaken, with the breaking up of the body, after death, that one arises in a good destination (sugati), a heavenly world. But if, with the breaking up of the body, after death, that one does not arise in a good destination, a heavenly world — if instead one comes to the human state — then wherever one is afterwards reborn, one is of great influence (mahesakkha). This, student, is the way of practice (paṭipadā) that conduces to great influence, namely: one is not envious-minded; regarding the gains, honor, respect, esteem, homage, and veneration of others, one does not envy, does not resent, does not harbor envy.
