[707] When this was said, the Blessed One said this to Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī: "Give it to the Saṅgha, Gotamī. When it is given to the Saṅgha, both I and the Saṅgha will be honored."
A second time Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, this new pair of cloths I have spun myself and woven myself, intending it for the Blessed One. Venerable sir, may the Blessed One accept it from me, out of compassion (anukampaṃ upādāya)."
A second time the Blessed One said this to Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī: "Give it to the Saṅgha, Gotamī. When it is given to the Saṅgha, both I and the Saṅgha will be honored."
A third time Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, this new pair of cloths I have spun myself and woven myself, intending it for the Blessed One. Venerable sir, may the Blessed One accept it from me, out of compassion."
A third time the Blessed One said this to Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī: "Give it to the Saṅgha, Gotamī. When it is given to the Saṅgha, both I and the Saṅgha will be honored."
