Puṇṇovādasutta

Suttapiṭaka · Majjhimanikāya · Vol. 14 · Section 760

[760] "But if, Puṇṇa, the people of Sunāparanta strike you a blow with a club, what then, Puṇṇa, will you think of them?" "Venerable sir, if the people of Sunāparanta strike me a blow with a club, I shall think thus of them: 'Gracious indeed are these people of Sunāparanta, truly gracious indeed are these people of Sunāparanta, in that they do not give me a blow with a knife.' Thus it will be for me here, Blessed One; thus it will be for me here, Sublime One (Sugata)."
