[766] Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in Jeta's Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika's monastery. Then Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī, together with about five hundred bhikkhunīs, approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, she stood at one side. Standing at one side, Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, may the Blessed One exhort the bhikkhunīs; venerable sir, may the Blessed One instruct the bhikkhunīs; venerable sir, may the Blessed One give the bhikkhunīs a talk on the Dhamma."
