[767] Now on that occasion the elder bhikkhus were advising the bhikkhunīs by turns. But Venerable Nandaka did not wish to advise the bhikkhunīs when his turn came. Then the Blessed One addressed Venerable Ānanda: "Ānanda, whose turn is it today to advise the bhikkhunīs?"
"Venerable sir, all have already taken their turn to advise the bhikkhunīs by rotation; but this Venerable Nandaka does not wish to advise the bhikkhunīs when his turn comes."
Then the Blessed One addressed Venerable Nandaka: "Advise the bhikkhunīs, Nandaka; instruct the bhikkhunīs, Nandaka. Brahmin, give the bhikkhunīs a talk on the Dhamma."
"Yes, venerable sir," Venerable Nandaka replied to the Blessed One. Then, in the morning, he dressed and, taking his bowl and robe, entered Sāvatthī for alms. Having wandered for alms in Sāvatthī, after the meal, on returning from his almsround, he went with a companion (attadutiyo) to the Rājakārāma. Those bhikkhunīs saw Venerable Nandaka coming in the distance; having seen him, they prepared a seat and set out water for washing the feet. Venerable Nandaka sat down on the prepared seat and, having sat down, washed his feet. Those bhikkhunīs, having paid homage to Venerable Nandaka, sat down to one side.
