[122] Thus have I heard.
On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Rājagaha, in the Deer Park (Migadāya) at Maddakucchi.
Now on that occasion the Blessed One's foot had been cut by a stone splinter. Severe indeed were the feelings (vedanā) that beset the Blessed One — bodily feelings, painful, intense, harsh, piercing, disagreeable, and displeasing. These the Blessed One endured, mindful and clearly comprehending, without being distressed. Then the Blessed One, having had his outer robe (saṅghāṭi) spread out folded in four, lay down on his right side in the lion's posture (sīhaseyyā), placing one foot upon the other, mindful and clearly comprehending.
