[380] This is what [the Blessed One] said. …
"For one who desires long life, health, and beauty,
heaven, and birth in a high family,
and lofty delights one after another,
the wise praise heedfulness (appamāda)
in the doing of deeds of merit (puññakiriyā).
The wise one who is heedful
secures both goods (attha):
the good in this very life
and the good that pertains to the life to come.
Through the attainment of the good
the steadfast one (dhīra) is called 'wise.'"
