[390] Then, in the middle of the day, King Pasenadi of Kosala approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, he sat down to one side.
The Blessed One said this to King Pasenadi of Kosala as he sat to one side: "Well now, great king, where are you coming from in the middle of the day?"
"Here in Sāvatthī, venerable sir, a financier (seṭṭhi) householder (gahapati) has died. I have come after conveying his heirless (aputtaka) fortune into the royal palace — a hundred hundred-thousands [ten million] in gold (hirañña) alone, venerable sir, and what to say, then, of silver (rūpiya)! And yet, venerable sir, such was that financier householder's enjoyment of food: he ate broken rice (kaṇājaka) with sour gruel (bilaṅga) as its accompaniment. Such was his enjoyment of clothing: he wore hemp-cloth (sāṇa), a garment sewn of three strips. Such was his enjoyment of vehicles: he went about in a dilapidated little cart, with a parasol of leaves held above him."
