[401] This is what [the Blessed One] said. … All beings will die, for life has death as its end; they will go according to their deeds (kamma), reaping the fruits of merit (puñña) and evil (pāpa): those whose deeds are evil go to hell (niraya), and those whose deeds are meritorious to a good destination (sugati). Therefore one should do what is good, laying up a store for the life to come; merits are the support of living beings in the world beyond (paraloka). The Loka Sutta, Third
