[493] Then the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus: "Bhikkhus, do you see that cloud of smoke, that swirl of darkness, moving now to the eastern quarter, moving to the western quarter, moving to the northern quarter, moving to the southern quarter, moving upward, moving downward, moving to the intermediate quarters?" "Even so, venerable sir." "That, bhikkhus, is Māra the Evil One searching for the consciousness (viññāṇa) of the clansman Godhika, thinking, 'Where is the consciousness of the clansman Godhika established?' But, bhikkhus, with consciousness unestablished, the clansman Godhika has attained final Nibbāna."
