[587] When this was said, that brahmā, not accepting that statement, multiplied himself a thousand times and said this to Subrahmā the paccekabrahmā (independent brahmā): "Do you see, dear sir (mārisa), such power and might (iddhānubhāva) as this of mine?" "I do see, dear sir, such power and might as this of yours." "I, dear sir, being of such great power, of such great might — to what other ascetic or brahmin shall I go to attend upon?"
