[756] Then the Venerable Vaṅgīsa extolled the Venerable Mahāmoggallāna in the presence of the Blessed One with suitable verses:
"Seated on the mountainside is the sage,
gone to the far shore of suffering (dukkha);
the disciples attend upon him,
bearers of the threefold true knowledge (tevijjā), who have left Death behind.
Moggallāna, of great psychic power,
seeks them out¹ with his mind,
searching their minds (citta) —
released, without acquisitions.
Thus, perfect in every quality —
the sage gone to the far shore of suffering,
endowed with excellence in manifold ways —
they attend upon Gotama."
