Phaggunasutta

[31] Dwelling at Sāvatthī ... "Bhikkhus, there are these four nutriments (āhārā) for the maintenance of beings that have come to be or for the assistance of those seeking birth (sambhavesī). Which four? Edible food (kavaḷīkāro āhāro), gross or subtle; contact (phasso) is the second; mental volition (manosañcetanā) is the third; consciousness is the fourth. These, bhikkhus, are the four nutriments for the maintenance of beings that have come to be or for the assistance of those seeking birth."
