[310] Bhikkhus, by one who does not know, who does not see aging and death (jarāmaraṇa) as it really is (yathābhūta), training (sikkhā) should be undertaken for knowledge (ñāṇa) of aging and death as it really is.
[Thus the repetition series (peyyāla) is to be elaborated by way of the four truths.]
Application (yoga) should be made … desire (chanda) should be made … enthusiasm (ussoḷhī) should be made … persistence (appaṭivānī) should be made … ardor (ātappa) should be made … energy (vīriya) should be made … perseverance (sātacca) should be made … mindfulness (sati) should be made … clear comprehension (sampajañña) should be made … diligence (appamāda) should be made.

Its summary (uddāna):
The Teacher (satthā), the training, and application,
desire, enthusiasm the fifth;
persistence, ardor,
energy and perseverance are spoken of;
mindfulness and clear comprehension —
with diligence, twelve.

The foregoing come to twelve; and the suttas number one hundred and thirty-two;
those repetition series which stand in between were spoken by way of the four truths.
