[455] Dwelling at Sāvatthī … There the Blessed One … "Bhikkhus, this saṃsāra is without discoverable beginning. A first point is not discerned of beings roaming and wandering on, hindered by ignorance (avijjā) and fettered by craving (taṇhā). Bhikkhus, a being who has not formerly been a daughter in this long course of time is not easy to find. Why is that? Because, bhikkhus, this saṃsāra is without discoverable beginning; a first point is not discerned of beings roaming and wandering on, hindered by ignorance and fettered by craving. For such a long time, bhikkhus, you have experienced suffering (dukkha), experienced anguish, experienced disaster, and swelled the charnel ground (kaṭasī). This much, bhikkhus, is enough to become disenchanted with all formations (saṅkhārā), enough to become dispassionate toward them, enough to be liberated from them."
