[537] The Blessed One said this: "Dreadful, bhikkhus, are gain, honor, and fame (lābhasakkārasiloka) — bitter, harsh, obstructive to the attainment of the unsurpassed security from bondage (yogakkhema). Therefore, bhikkhus, you should train thus: 'We will abandon gain, honor, and fame that have arisen; and gain, honor, and fame that have arisen shall not persist overwhelming our mind (citta).' Thus indeed, bhikkhus, should you train." The first.
