[583] Dwelling at Sāvatthī … There the Blessed One … "Dreadful, bhikkhus, are gain, honor, and fame (lābhasakkārasiloka) … For Devadatta, overcome by gain, honor, and fame, his mind (citta) consumed by them, the wholesome root (kusalamūla) was utterly cut off. So dreadful indeed, bhikkhus, are gain, honor, and fame … thus should you train." The second.
