[584] Dwelling at Sāvatthī ... There the Blessed One ... said: "Dreadful, bhikkhus, are gain, honour, and fame ... Bhikkhus, in Devadatta, overcome by gain, honour, and fame, his mind (citta) consumed by them, the wholesome quality (kusala dhamma) came to be cut off. So dreadful, bhikkhus, are gain, honour, and fame ... Thus should you train yourselves." The third.
