[585] Dwelling at Sāvatthī. ... There the Blessed One ... (said): "Dreadful, bhikkhus, are gain, honour, and fame (lābhasakkārasiloka) ... Bhikkhus, when Devadatta was overcome by gain, honour, and fame, his mind (citta) consumed by them, his bright quality (sukko dhammo) was cut off at the root. So dreadful, bhikkhus, are gain, honour, and fame ... thus should you train yourselves." The fourth.
