[586] On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Rājagaha on Mount Gijjhakūṭa. Not long after Devadatta had departed, the Blessed One, with reference to Devadatta, addressed the bhikkhus there: "Bhikkhus, gain, honour, and fame (lābhasakkārasiloka) arose for Devadatta to his own destruction; gain, honour, and fame arose for Devadatta to his downfall."
