[593] "Bhikkhus, do not envy Devadatta's gain, honor, and fame (lābhasakkārasiloka). For as long as Prince Ajātasattu goes to attend upon Devadatta in the evening and in the morning with five hundred carriages, and an offering of food in five hundred pots (thālipāka) is conveyed to him, it is only decline in wholesome states that is to be expected for Devadatta, not growth."
