[676] Bhikkhus, at present bhikkhus dwell using blocks of wood as pillows (kaliṅgarūpadhāna), heedful (appamatta), ardent, and resolute in striving (padhāna). Māra the Evil One gains no opening over them, gains no foothold. But in the future, bhikkhus, there will be bhikkhus who are delicate, with soft and tender hands and feet; they will sleep until sunrise on soft beds with thick pillows. Māra the Evil One will gain an opening over them, will gain a foothold. Therefore, bhikkhus, you should train thus: 'We shall dwell using blocks of wood as pillows, heedful, ardent, and resolute in striving.' Thus indeed, bhikkhus, should you train.
