[698] Then the Blessed One, knowing with his own mind the reflection in that bhikkhu's mind, addressed the bhikkhus: "Bhikkhus, do not find fault with this bhikkhu. This bhikkhu, bhikkhus, is one who gains at will, without trouble and without difficulty, the four jhānas that pertain to the higher mind (abhicetasika) and are pleasant dwellings in this very life; and he is one who, having realized it for himself with direct knowledge (abhiññā), in this very life enters upon and dwells in that unsurpassed consummation of the holy life (brahmacariya) for the sake of which clansmen rightly go forth from the home life into homelessness."
