[297] At Sāvatthī. "Bhikkhus, there are these five aggregates subject to clinging (upādānakkhandhā). Which five? Namely: the aggregate subject to clinging that is form (rūpa) … the aggregate subject to clinging that is consciousness (viññāṇa).
"Bhikkhus, when, having understood as it really is (yathābhūta) the origin (samudaya) and the passing away, the gratification, the danger, and the escape in the case of these five aggregates subject to clinging, one is liberated through non-clinging — this, bhikkhus, is called a bhikkhu who is an arahant, one whose taints (āsava) are destroyed, who has lived the life, done what had to be done, laid down the burden, attained his own true goal, utterly destroyed the fetters of existence, one liberated through final knowledge (sammadaññā vimutto)."
