[37] At Sāvatthī. There … Bhikkhus, form (rūpa) of the past and future is suffering (dukkha), not to speak of the present. Seeing thus, bhikkhus, the instructed noble disciple (ariyasāvaka) is without concern for past form, does not delight in future form, and is practicing for revulsion (nibbidā) toward present form, for its dispassion (virāga), for its cessation. Feeling (vedanā) is suffering. Perception is suffering. Volitional formations are suffering. Consciousness of the past and future is suffering, not to speak of the present. Seeing thus, bhikkhus, the instructed noble disciple is without concern for past consciousness, does not delight in future consciousness, and is practicing for revulsion toward present consciousness, for its dispassion, for its cessation.
