[36] At Sāvatthī. There … "Bhikkhus, form (rūpa), whether past or future, is impermanent (anicca) — not to speak of the present. Seeing thus, bhikkhus, the instructed noble disciple (sutavā ariyasāvako) is unconcerned with past form, does not delight in future form, and is practising for revulsion (nibbidā) towards, dispassion (virāga) towards, and cessation (nirodha) of present form. Feeling (vedanā) is impermanent … Perception (saññā) is impermanent … Volitional formations (saṅkhārā), whether past or future, are impermanent — not to speak of the present. Seeing thus, bhikkhus, the instructed noble disciple is unconcerned with past volitional formations, does not delight in future volitional formations, and is practising for revulsion towards, dispassion towards, and cessation of present volitional formations. Consciousness (viññāṇa), whether past or future, is impermanent — not to speak of the present. Seeing thus, bhikkhus, the instructed noble disciple is unconcerned with past consciousness, does not delight in future consciousness, and is practising for revulsion towards, dispassion towards, and cessation of present consciousness."
