[370] Sāvatthī. As the Venerable Rādha was seated to one side, the Blessed One said this to him: "Rādha, there are these five aggregates subject to clinging (upādānakkhandhā). What five? That is: the form aggregate subject to clinging, the feeling (vedanā) aggregate subject to clinging, the perception aggregate subject to clinging, the volitional-formations aggregate subject to clinging, and the consciousness aggregate subject to clinging. Rādha, whatever ascetics or brahmins do not understand as it really is the gratification (assāda), the danger (ādīnava), and the escape (nissaraṇa) in the case of these five aggregates subject to clinging — those ascetics or brahmins, Rādha, are not reckoned as ascetics among ascetics, nor reckoned as brahmins among brahmins; nor do those venerable ones, in this very life, having realized it for themselves with direct knowledge, enter upon and dwell in the goal of asceticism or the goal of brahminhood."
