[387] Bhikkhus, just as an oil lamp (telappadīpo) might burn in dependence on oil and a wick, and with the exhaustion of that very oil and wick, being without fuel, it would be extinguished — even so, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu, when experiencing a feeling (vedanā) terminating with the body, understands: 'I experience a feeling terminating with the body.' When experiencing a feeling terminating with life, he understands: 'I experience a feeling terminating with life.' He understands: 'With the breakup of the body, following the exhaustion of life, right here all that is felt, not being delighted in, will become cool.'
