[412] "Ānanda, in one method of exposition (pariyāya) I have spoken of two feelings (vedanā); in one method of exposition I have spoken of three feelings; in one method of exposition I have spoken of five feelings; in one method of exposition I have spoken of six feelings; in one method of exposition I have spoken of eighteen feelings; in one method of exposition I have spoken of thirty-six feelings; in one method of exposition I have spoken of one hundred and eight feelings. Thus, Ānanda, the Dhamma has been taught by me by way of exposition.
"When the Dhamma has been thus taught by me by way of exposition, Ānanda, as to those who will not concede, will not allow, and will not approve of what is well spoken and well stated by one another — this may be expected of them: they will dwell quarrelsome, contentious, fallen into dispute, stabbing one another with the daggers of the tongue.
"Thus, Ānanda, the Dhamma has been taught by me by way of exposition. When the Dhamma has been thus taught by me by way of exposition, Ānanda, as to those who will concede, will allow, and will approve of what is well spoken and well stated by one another — this may be expected of them: they will dwell in concord, in mutual delight, without disputing, blending like milk and water, regarding one another with affectionate eyes."
