[506] "'Craving, craving (taṇhā),' friend Sāriputta, so it is said. What now, friend, is craving?"
"There are, friend, these three cravings: craving for sensual pleasures, craving for existence, craving for non-existence. These, friend, are the three cravings."
"But is there, friend, a path, is there a way of practice (paṭipadā) for the abandoning of these cravings?"
"There is, friend, a path, there is a way of practice for the abandoning of these cravings."
"And what, friend, is the path, what is the way of practice for the abandoning of these cravings?"
"It is just this Noble Eightfold Path for the abandoning of these cravings, namely: right view … right concentration (samādhi). This, friend, is the path, this is the way of practice for the abandoning of these cravings."
"Excellent, friend, is the path, excellent the way of practice for the abandoning of these cravings — and enough, friend Sāriputta, for diligence (appamāda)."
