[507] "'The flood, the flood (ogha),' friend Sāriputta, it is said. What now, friend, is the flood?"
"There are, friend, these four floods: the flood of sensuality (kāmogha), the flood of existence (bhavogha), the flood of views (diṭṭhogha), and the flood of ignorance (avijjogha). These, friend, are the four floods."
"But is there, friend, a path (magga), is there a way of practice (paṭipadā), for the abandoning of these floods?"
"There is, friend, a path, there is a way of practice, for the abandoning of these floods."
"But what, friend, is the path, what is the way of practice, for the abandoning of these floods?"
"It is just this Noble Eightfold Path, friend, for the abandoning of these floods; that is: right view … right concentration (samādhi). This, friend, is the path, this is the way of practice, for the abandoning of these floods."
"Excellent, friend, is the path, excellent is the way of practice, for the abandoning of these floods; and it is enough, friend Sāriputta, for diligence (appamāda)."
