[554] On one occasion a number of elder bhikkhus were dwelling at Macchikāsaṇḍa, in the Ambāṭaka Grove. Then Citta the householder approached the elder bhikkhus; having approached and paid homage to the elder bhikkhus, he sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, Citta the householder said this to the elder bhikkhus: "Venerable sirs, may the elders consent to accept a meal from me tomorrow at the cowshed." The elder bhikkhus consented by silence. Then Citta the householder, having understood the elder bhikkhus' consent, rose from his seat, paid homage to the elder bhikkhus, circumambulated them keeping his right side towards them, and departed.
