[68] Then the Venerable Migajāla approached the Blessed One … Sitting to one side, the Venerable Migajāla said this to the Blessed One: "It would be good, venerable sir, if the Blessed One would teach me the Dhamma in brief, so that, having heard the Dhamma from the Blessed One, I might dwell alone, withdrawn, heedful, ardent (ātāpī), and resolute."
"There are, Migajāla, forms (rūpa) cognizable by the eye that are wished for, desirable, agreeable, dear, connected with sensuality, provocative of lust. If a bhikkhu delights in them, welcomes them, and remains attached to them, then, as he delights in them, welcomes them, and remains attached to them, delight (nandi) arises. With the origin of delight there is the origin of suffering (dukkha), Migajāla, I say. … There are, Migajāla, tastes cognizable by the tongue … There are, Migajāla, mental phenomena (dhammā) cognizable by the mind that are wished for, desirable, agreeable, dear, connected with sensuality, provocative of lust. If a bhikkhu delights in them, welcomes them, and remains attached to them, then, as he delights in them, welcomes them, and remains attached to them, delight arises. With the origin of delight there is the origin of suffering, Migajāla, I say."
