[698] And what, bhikkhus, is the path leading to the unconditioned (asaṅkhata)? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu generates desire (chanda) for the abandoning of evil, unwholesome states that have arisen; he strives, arouses energy, exerts the mind, and endeavours. This, bhikkhus, is called the path leading to the unconditioned.
