[700] And what, bhikkhus, is the path leading to the unconditioned (asaṅkhata)? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu generates desire (chanda) for the persistence, non-confusion, increase, expansion, development, and fulfillment of arisen wholesome states (kusalā dhammā); he strives, arouses energy (vīriya), exerts the mind (citta), and endeavors. This, bhikkhus, is called the path leading to the unconditioned.
