[1109] Bhikkhus, whoever have missed the four bases of spiritual power (iddhipādā) have missed the noble path leading to the complete destruction of suffering (dukkha). Bhikkhus, whoever have undertaken the four bases of spiritual power have undertaken the noble path leading to the complete destruction of suffering. What four? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops the base of spiritual power that possesses concentration (samādhi) due to desire (chanda) and volitional formations of striving. He develops the base of spiritual power that possesses concentration due to energy … concentration due to mind (citta) … concentration due to investigation (vīmaṃsā) and volitional formations of striving. Bhikkhus, whoever have missed these four bases of spiritual power have missed the noble path leading to the complete destruction of suffering. Bhikkhus, whoever have undertaken these four bases of spiritual power have undertaken the noble path leading to the complete destruction of suffering.
