[1110] "Bhikkhus, these four bases for spiritual power (iddhipāda), when developed and cultivated, are noble and emancipating; they lead the one who acts upon them onward to the complete destruction of suffering (dukkha). What four? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops the basis for spiritual power endowed with concentration (samādhi) due to desire (chanda) and volitional formations of striving (padhānasaṅkhāra); he develops the basis for spiritual power endowed with concentration due to energy … concentration due to mind (citta) … concentration due to investigation (vīmaṃsā) and volitional formations of striving. These, bhikkhus, are the four bases for spiritual power which, when developed and cultivated, are noble and emancipating; they lead the one who acts upon them onward to the complete destruction of suffering."
