[1145] When, bhikkhus — nay: When the four bases of psychic power (iddhipāda) have been developed thus and cultivated thus, a bhikkhu, with the divine eye, purified and surpassing the human, sees beings passing away and being reborn—inferior and superior, beautiful and ugly, fortunate and unfortunate—and he understands beings as faring according to their kamma: "These worthy beings who were endowed with bodily misconduct, endowed with verbal misconduct, endowed with mental misconduct, revilers of the noble ones, holding wrong view, undertaking actions based on wrong view—these, with the breakup of the body, after death, have been reborn in a state of deprivation, a bad destination, the underworld, hell. But these worthy beings who were endowed with bodily good conduct, endowed with verbal good conduct, endowed with mental good conduct, not revilers of the noble ones, holding right view, undertaking actions based on right view—these, with the breakup of the body, after death, have been reborn in a good destination, a heavenly world." Thus with the divine eye, purified and surpassing the human, he sees beings passing away and being reborn—inferior and superior, beautiful and ugly, fortunate and unfortunate—and he understands beings as faring according to their kamma.
