[1418] Then the Blessed One, having dressed, taking his bowl and robe, approached the residence of the lay follower Dīghāvu. Having approached, he sat down on the seat that had been prepared. Having sat down, the Blessed One said this to the lay follower Dīghāvu: "I hope, Dīghāvu, that you are bearing up; I hope that you are getting by; I hope that your painful feelings (vedanā) are subsiding and not increasing, and that their subsiding, not their increase, is discernible." "Venerable sir, I am not bearing up; I am not getting by. Severe painful feelings are increasing in me, not subsiding; their increase, not their subsiding, is discernible."
