[147] Setting at Sāvatthī. Bhikkhus, one thing is of great help for the arising of the noble eightfold path. What is that one thing? It is good friendship (kalyāṇamittatā). Bhikkhus, when a bhikkhu has a good friend, it is to be expected that he will develop the noble eightfold path and cultivate the noble eightfold path.
